Amidst the green panoramas of the Umbria region and ancient medieval towns, the Alta Valle del Tevere opens up almost suddenly: a stretch of paradise on the border with the Marches Region and Tuscany. Residenza Antica Canonica rises up from within Città di Castello, right in the heart of the valley, in perfect harmony with the beauty of the surrounding area.
A dream made of wood and stone that will let you relive the past.
The old fifteenth century building that houses the Residenza Antica Canonica rises up from within the old town of Città di Castello, right beside the Cathedral. The building was originally used for accommodating the canons of the Cathedral: bearing witness to this far gone era, the imposing doorways have remained in the corridor, that still allow for access to the Cathedral today as they did then.
Throughout the residence, an atmosphere of times gone by still prevails, it has remained intact thanks to the restoration work that was respectful of the original structure. On the inside of the building we can admire the doorways made of pietra serena with ancient inscriptions, the lacunar ceilings and an important fresco from the 1500′s that reproduces the famous Crucifixion by Raphael, which is today housed in the Louvre.
