We start from the Basilica of San Francesco and cross the historical center of Assisi to exit at Porta Nuova. Continuing downhill for about 400 meters on the Via Madonna of the Olive grove we then turn left into the Via San Benedetto. After 1300 meters the path joins that of the Via Fosso of Prisons, Via Borghettaccio and Via Fonte l’Abate. The flat track follows the borders of the Mount Subasio Park, offering a panoramic view of the valley below. After about 3 km the descent begins: you make a sharp right turn and after 170 meters make a left turn. After a wide curve to the left, with the village of Collicello on your right, you reach a junction of dirt roads; take a tight turn to the right and then immediately take the little road that goes down to the left – Via Renaro – until you cross a paved road that you will follow for about 300 meters then turn left onto the dirt road that, after 1.3 km, crosses the Way of Olives .The road flattens out once more and goes through ancient olive groves until, after 3 km it reaches the town of Spello. Crossing the old town, you get to the exit at the Porta Consolare gate and turn left on to the Via Consular; after 200 meters turn right onto the Via Giacomo Brodolini and after about 1 km follow the Via Spineto to the underpass of the Assisi-Foligno motorway (2.7 km.) You follow the Via Firenze, one of the main arteries of the city of Foligno, proceeding towards the city center for 1.8 km until you cross the bridge over the river Topino.

From Foligno’s Bridge of Liberation we follow the path in a North-Easterly direction along the left bank of the Topino river and after 800 meters follow the bike path along the river. Passing under the bridge over the SS3, continue keeping to the right until you reach the Via Antonio Allegri. Turn right for about 450 meters until house number 11, which is on your right. There you take a right again along a path that joins a dirt road until you first reach the Via Donato Bramante and then the Via Scanzano. Cross the river on the bridge and following the S.P. 449 you enter the village of Scanzano Vescia to then turn right on the Via dei Frantoi. The road continues towards Belfiore along the Via del Molino and the Via Borgaccio and then continues uphill along the Via Altolina to reach Belfiore, taking the path on the right along the Belfiore valley, famous for its waterfalls. The trail winds its tortuous way uphill before entering the town of Pale: from the square of the Fountain turn left for 800 meters to the bridge leading to Saint Lucia, which is reached along a paved road after 2 km. The Sostino section then continues towards Franca. After 5 km of cobbled road and passing the junction to Franca, you turn left for 600 meters until you reach the paved road that leads from Colfiorito to Capodacqua where is found the Church of the Madonna of Ricciano. Carry on for 160 meters towards Capodacqua then turn right to follow the path that leads to the ridge between Seggio and Forcatura (1.4 km.); at the intersection turn right onto a dirt road that leads, after 2.1 km, to the village of Forcatura. From there continue along asphalt for 3 km to the village of Colfiorito.

Starting from Colfiorito you proceed along the Via Plestia. Once you reach the Church of Plestia carry on to the village of Taverne, beyond which a paved road runs for about 3 km, crossing the high plateau until arriving at Fonte delle Mattinate. Turn right along a dirt road 50 meters before the main road which is closed to vehicles by a barrier, then follow the right hand bank of the river Chienti. The trail climbs up to top of a hill where there is a crossroads of gravel roads. Take the left hand road down to where a path on the left winds down steep hairpin bends towards Serravalle di Chienti. Once through the village you reach the next village of Bavareto along the road that runs parallel to the highway. From here the path follows the river to a small hydroelectric plant where you cross the river along the top of a small dam. You then pass under the highway bridge and continue along a dirt road to the hamlet of Lower Gelagna. The trail continues for approximately 1.2 km after which you cross a Romanesque bridge and continue along the dirt road that climbs up to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Col dei Venti (2,2 km.) From the Sanctuary walk down a steep path to the village of Muccia.

From the center of Muccia you cross highway 77 to follow along the Via della Piane that crosses the village of Jupiter parallel to highway 77 and reaches the intersection with the main road to Visso (1.9 km.). Cross the main road and take the dirt road in front of you leading to the architectural wonder of Villa Maddalena; Then bear to the right to follow a 1.3 km path to arrive at the Monastery of St. Francis of Pievebovigliana. From here take the paved road until you reach and follow the path along the length of lake Polverina. Once in the village of Polverina follow the path on the right of the Chienti and then take the path on the right just before the bridge that leads to the village of San Giusto. Just past the cemetery you take the path that descends to the left and leads to a ford over the stream, beyond which you continue on a dirt road keeping to the right for about 1.2 km; you once again reach the valley floor along a dirt road which runs parallel to the freeway and thence back to the village of Valdiea. Cross the small village proceeding uphill and at the junction of dirt roads on the top turn left: after about 500 meters turn left again and take the path that crosses the dirt road that leads to the small village of Fiungo (2.1 km), then follow the path leading to the church of Madonna del Sasso and continue until you reach the hamlet of Valcimarra (3.1 km). From the village square you descend along the asphalt road for 100 meters and take a path that climbs steeply up to the right through a gravel olive grove until you reach the entrance to a dirt road that descends to the left and leads to Pievefavera (2.2 km).

From Montalto Castle descend along the asphalt road to the village of Villa (1 km). From the center of Villa turn right on a slight uphill road that bends left after about 200 meters onto a dirt road that runs for about 2 km. You meet a downhill fork where you turn right for 600 meters to reach a square from which starts the trail to the Gole del Fiastrone and the Grotta dei Frati. To reach the Grotta dei Frati it is necessary to make a detour of about 10 minutes walk to then rejoin the path which zigzags steeply downhill to the banks of the Fiastrone river. Fording the river the path continues, climbing up the other side to the monastery cemetery and the Abbey of San Salvatore. Continue right on the paved road to the village of Monastero di Cessapalombo which you cross, merging onto a dirt road, now closed to car traffic, which reaches the Convent of San Liberato situated halfway up the mountain (4.3 km). Leaving the convent on the left follow the tarmac road until you reach and proceed along the turn for Sarnano (800 meters). The path continues downwards on asphalt for 1.8 km until a path on the right leads to the village of Terro. You then turn left uphill onto a dirt road at the end of which (2.5 km.) begins a path that goes down 500 meters to emerge on a paved road that reaches the historical downtown center of Sarnano from the west after 1 km.

From Sarnano you descend via San Rocco, at the end of which, after crossing the bridge over the river Tennacola, begins a path that climbs to the village of Morelli. Cross the village and at a small shrine turn left. The path proceeds along a dirt road until reaching Grassetti (800 meters), where you take the old path of Mercatali that runs for about 1 km. The path enters another dirt road near the village of Pianelle; turn left and follow the dirt road for 2 km then turn sharply to the right on an ancient Roman road, with frequent stretches of cobblestones, which leads to the hamlet of Taccarelli (1.5 km). From the intersection at Taccarelli go straight. The road again becomes tarmac and enters the town of Amandola. You pass through the villages of Le Piane and Casa di Carlo to get to Amandola along the Via Aldo Moro. After crossing highway 78 head left up the road which leads to the Capuchin Monastery on your left until the road crosses the highway. There you enter the main square of Amandola. From here the road descends downhill for about 50 meters where you take a staircase on the right that leads to the via Pignotto, which after 200 meters becomes a dirt road leading to the Tenna river valley. You cross a Romanesque humpback bridge and go up the other side to reach the factories of the Piandicontro industrial area. Crossing highway Z.I. from west to east you take a right turn onto the dirt road that after 200 meters turns left and becomes a path. It crosses a tributary of the Tenna over a Roman bridge hidden by vegetation to then proceed up the hill to the ridge at the east of the SS78 until reaching the Franciscan hermitage of Madonna delle Grazie. From there, along dirt roads, you reach the home where Salvi lived and immediately after that the village of St. Peter in Castagna. From the church square, turn left and after crossing two rural lodgings, the path climbs right. After 600 meters, at the junction turn right on the asphalt road for about 500 meters until you reach a another junction; proceed to the left on a paved road which shortly becomes a dirt road. Carry on until you reach the asphalt heading down to Monte Genco 2.9 km distant. At the turning to Monte Genco take the dirt road that leads to the village 750 meters away. There, on your right, is the entrance to the path leading to the municipality of Comunanza.

From the historical center of Comunanza you head South on to the Provincial 187 to then turn left at the junction for Collechiaro. The dirt road rises with many curves for 2 km until on the right you find a trail that descends along the ridge to the village of Seven Carpini. Turn right onto a dirt road and after 170 meters keep left at the fork and head down; the dirt road winds its tortuous way for 6.2 km until you reach the village of Tavernelle. From here continue along the paved road, keeping the road to Castel San Pietro on your left, and after about 4 km you reach the junction that leads to Palmiano on the right. Here turn left onto the road that leads from Palmiano to Venarotta and at the first bend take the path up the hill that leads to the road from Force to Venarotta. When the path reaches the intersection with the main road avoid going to the right along the crest of the hill but instead head down next to the far side of the road until you reach the entrance of a dirt road. Follow it for 2.6 km, then turn left onto a path that descends steeply for about 1.2 km and enters the Industrial Zone of Venarotta. Turn left and after 170 meters turn right again. Follow the road for another 450 meters and turn right again onto the road that goes from Roccafluvione to Venarotta. Follow the road for 180 meters and at the junction turn left until you reach the intersection with via Europa, which leads to the center of the town.

From the octagonal-shaped church of Cardinale take the paved road to Cepparano – Castellano which you leave after 1 km at a curve to follow a dirt road on the left. After 300 meters turn right onto a path that leads down to the valley of the Salara district, where you have to ford the river Chiaro and continue until you see a dirt road on the right that leads to the village of Tirabotte. Arriving in the village, at an intersection where there is a small church, turn right on asphalt to a path that descends through the woods, back to the river Chiaro. Here you will have to cross a second ford after which you reach the road that climbs steeply to the village of Curti. From Curti you take the road to Gimigliano and after 800 meters, on a bend, turn left onto a dirt road. After 100 meters turn right onto a steep path that goes up to the gravel road. Turn left and proceed downhill along the Via Monterocco following it for 2.5 km To the Sanctuary of St. Antonetto. At the end take a sharp left onto the paved road leading to Porta Cappuccina, entrance to the city of Ascoli Piceno (2.5 km).
